വിവരാവകാശ നിയമം, 2005 (Right to Information Act, 2005) പ്രകാരം ഓരോ പൗരനും സർക്കാർ സ്ഥാപനങ്ങളിൽ നിന്നും പൊതുതാൽപര്യമുള്ള വിവരങ്ങൾ ആവശ്യപ്പെടുന്നതിനും ലഭിക്കുന്നതിനും അവകാശമുണ്ട്. ഈ നിയമം ഭരണപരമായ സുതാര്യത, ഉത്തരവാദിത്തം, ജനപങ്കാളിത്തം എന്നിവ ശക്തിപ്പെടുത്തുന്നതിന് സഹായിക്കുന്നു.
